“Why South Side?”:
The South Side program has a strong focus on addiction medicine and on mental healthcare, both of which are particular interests of mine within family medicine. The program is also located where I grew up, allowing me to serve my neighbors and raise my family close to my own family and friends.

“Why South Side?”:
My interest in the Southside Family Medicine Residency Program is driven by its dedication to serving the underserved population of Milwaukee’s south side. The program’s mission to train culturally competent family physicians to provide care to underserved communities highly resonates with my personal goals and interests in practicing medicine.
Training with the Southside Family Medicine Residency Program will enable me to make a meaningful impact on these communities and gain valuable experience in providing care to refugee populations, which is a passion of mine as an immigrant myself. Additionally, the opportunity to train across the full scope of family medicine in a community setting, with affiliations to an academic center renowned for its clinical excellence, is highly appealing. During my second visit to the clinic, I felt a strong and immediate sense of belonging, thanks to the amazing, kind, and helpful faculty and residents. I am extremely confident that this program will provide the comprehensive training and supportive environment I seek to achieve my professional goals.

“Why South Side?”:
The South Side program became my top choice for residency very early on in medical school. When I first heard of the program, I was struck by the mindfulness of its design and the sincerity of its mission in addressing the needs of the underserved communities of Milwaukee’s South Side. Elements of the program that particularly appeal to me include its emphasis on community medicine, the opportunity to train at renowned medical centers, and the Spanish immersion curriculum. I am confident that South Side is perfectly suited to help me achieve my professional goals and become a well-rounded, community minded physician.

“Why South Side?”:
I came to South Side Family Medicine because I love its mission of community-focused medicine and focus on serving the Latino population of South Side Milwaukee. I hope to take what I learned from working with underserved patients in West Side Chicago and use it to improve the health of this community. I am looking forward to meeting and learning with the patients at the South Side clinic!

“Why South Side?”:
I chose South Side Family Medicine Residency Program because they focus on the community of Milwaukee and filling their healthcare needs while also giving me the opportunity to study at an academic hospital. Prioritizing medical Spanish education really drew me to the program as well as knowing that every member of the faculty, staff, and resident team were wonderful and held the same passions as I do. All of this put together made me feel right at home with the program.

“Why South Side?”:
I chose MCW’s South Side Family Medicine Residency Program because of the perfect balance between high quality inpatient training at Froedtert and Children’s Wisconsin with the clinic’s strong commitment to building community within Milwaukee’s South Side. I was also lucky to train under many of South Side’s faculty during medical school and knew they prepared their residents to succeed in any realm of full-scope family medicine, especially within my interests of addiction medicine and community medicine. The final selling point was how kind and genuine the residents were on interview day!
