“Why South Side?”:
I was first drawn to the South Side Family Medicine Residency Program because of the opportunity to train at an academic hospital at Froedtert and to work with patients in a historically underserved neighborhood of Milwaukee. It has been a goal of mine to learn medical Spanish, and our immersive Spanish classes during our first month have allowed us to practice the language while also learning about Latino culture, specifically as it relates to healthcare. Although we are a new program, our faculty are all experienced in resident education and have expertise in different areas. I have the opportunity to pursue my interests in MAT and sports medicine. Since starting, our program has gone beyond my expectations as far as the quality of our faculty, fellow interns, program coordinator, clinic staff, and brand-new clinic facility. It is exciting to be a part of our program’s growth from its inception!

“Why South Side?”:
I chose the South side residency because it’s mission inspires me. I love the concept of taking the knowledge and experiences gained from academic training at Froedtert and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and using it to improve the lives of Milwaukee’s South Side. The Latinx population around the clinic is greatly underserved and we will be uniquely trained to help meet their needs. I’m also very interested in MAT and that is another large component of this residency.

“Why South Side?”:
South Side was my 1st choice for residency because of its strong emphasis on providing comprehensive and community-based healthcare. The faculty, staff, and community are great to work with and have further confirmed why I wanted to be part of this great program.

“Why South Side?”:
I chose the South Side program because I loved the idea of being part of a brand-new program that was created to meet a specific need within the Spanish-speaking community here on the south side of Milwaukee. I also love the emphasis this program puts on community medicine and the importance of culture in medicine, and I felt very connected to the faculty on interview day.

“Why South Side?”:
Froedtert & MCW South Side is everything I wanted in a residency program. Beyond our supportive, compassionate faculty and the high-level training we receive at Children’s and Froedtert Hospital, our community-based clinic offers the opportunity to learn how to provide equitable, comprehensive medical care that addresses the unique needs of our patients and communities. Plus, my co-residents are awesome!

“Why South Side?”:
I joined the South Side Family Medicine Program for the opportunity to be a part of the growth of a healthcare center from the ground up. The experience of learning how to grow and expand a diverse patient base while administering high-quality, patient-centered care to the greater community will prepare me to be a well-rounded physician of the future.
