With its mission to accelerate improved health and well-being for all through equitable, inclusive, innovative partnerships and collective voices, the MCW Office of Global Health wishes to acknowledge and formally recognize MCW faculty’s collaborators Drs. Maher and Mascari and partners both locally and around the world.

Receiving this inaugural recognition in Puebla, Mexico, is Living Hope International Esperanza Viva, the global partner of Dr. Kenneth Lee, Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, who presented this recognition to his long-term outstanding and exemplary partner that advances health equity in person on World Health Day 2026. Congratulations to Dr. Lee and his global partner for their valued telemedicine initiative, collaboration in community outreach to surrounding Mexican remote areas, and for welcoming our medical trainees for global health electives.

World Health Day was established in 1948 during the First World Health Assembly, marking one of the WHO’s earliest actions. It is celebrated every year on April 7th under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization. Since then, it has served as a platform to spotlight urgent health issues and promote global well-being. The 2026 theme is “Together for Health, Stand with Science.”  This theme highlights the critical need for scientific collaboration to protect the health of people, animals, plants, and the planet, which is well aligned with MCW’s growth as a health sciences university.

This campaign calls on governments, scientists, health workers, partners, and the public to: stand with science by engaging with evidence, facts, and science-based guidance to protect health; rebuild trust in science and public health; and support science-led solutions for a healthier future.

We are very proud of our work and partnership with Global Health, and we are thankful to have been recognized.
